Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test

The Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness Test (CVRT) or commonly referred to as a DoE is a roadworthiness test for all commercial vehicles, buses with more than eight passenger seats and ambulances. All commercial vehicles must be tested when they are over one year old and annually after that.

Our Top 5 tips for passing the NCT

  • Only buy tyres from a reputable retailer- this will ensure the tyres meet the minimum EU safety standards required for your tyres. Not only will this ensure you have the correct tyres for your vehicle, it also means that the tyres on your car are safe. We can check your tyres free of charge with no obligation to buy as we believe safe tyres save lives.

  • Ensure the tread depth of your vehicles tyres is at an acceptable level (minimum is 1.6mm), not only will this cause your vehicle to fail it is also hugely unsafe as the treads in the tyres allow water to pass between the tyres and the road- if these grooves aren’t there it will cause your car to skid and slide in wet weather.

  • Ensure your wheels are aligned correctly, everyday bumps like potholes or mounting a kerb can throw off the alignment of your tyres causing them to wear unevenly. Please see our Wheel Alignment Section for more information.

  • Don’t forget about the lights! Making sure your vehicles lights are correctly focused and all bulbs are working correctly. Please see our Light Focusing Section for more information.

  • Remember not all damage to tyres is easily visible; tyres may have damage on the inside that will only be seen when on a car lift. It’s always worthwhile calling in and having your tyres checked by our staff if you aren’t sure. All our staff are highly trained and happy to help!
